Lengalia Spanish course + language partner = maximum success
Our Spanish courses offer you a solid foundation. With Lengalia you learn what you need to be able to speak Spanish. And in order to be able to practise what you are learning, we recommend that you practise with a language partner.
What is a language partner? How does it work?
A language partner is a person who speaks the language you want to learn. And if you speak the language he/she want to learn, you can both benefit from each other. It works on the principle: I help you learn my language, you help me learn yours.
Practice speaking, for free, with a native speaker from one of the 21 Spanish-speaking countries.
Example:
Emma, from San Francisco, wants to practice Spanish for her upcoming trip to Bolivia; Hugo, from La Paz (and who is a tour guide in Bolivia!), is interested in practicing American English for his job. Thanks to this language exchange service, they have the opportunity to get in touch with each other. They make a first contact in writing via the website/app and decide when they want to talk via Skype, Zoom, or WhatsApp, for example. This way, Emma can speak Spanish with Hugo, and Hugo can speak English with Emma.
Advantages
- It is free. We mustn´t forget that learning or perfecting a language requires many hours of practice and conversation, and if you had to pay a teacher for those hours of conversation, we would be talking about a lot money.
- You get to practise pronunciation and listening comprehension. Your different language partners can help you to be flexible and accurate in the Spanish language. Plus, each of these 21 countries has its own characteristics too, which you will also get the chance to learn about.
- It helps to overcome possible fears and mental blocks when using the language.
- You can put into practice the new vocabulary and grammar rules you have just learned in a lesson at Lengalia by having real conversations. And not only that, but you will also learn different words and phrases from your language partner, and in the process find out more about their country, way of life and culture.
- The websites that offer this service have thousands of registered Spanish-speaking members, so you will have plenty of options to choose from.
When is the right time to look for a language partner?
This really depends on you and your personal situation. We recommend dedicating the first stage of your learning process to learning vocabulary and improving other language skills (grammar, reading comprehension, listening comprehension) until you are better able to understand what your partner is saying, so that you can give a meaningful answer.
Who makes a good language partner?
Although any opportunity to speak and listen to Spanish is useful, a conversation exchange begins with finding and choosing the right language partner. We recommend that you consider the following aspects:
- Level: The ideal partner should have a similar level to yours, so that both of you are facing similar challenges.
- Interests: It is best to find someone with similar interests, so that you have a lot to talk about.
- Nationality: If you want to practice your Spanish with the accent of a certain country.
- Availability: Your Spanish will improve more if you practise regularly and not just once in a while.
How do you practise with a language partner?
You speak in one language for half the time and then switch to the other. We recommend between 60 and 90 minutes per session.
Where do I find a language partner?
Nowadays, there are many applications and websites with thousands of registered, Spanish-speaking members, where you can find, for free, the partner that best suits your current needs, according to their nationality, interests, availability, etc.
Some examples of such sites: speaky, conversationexchange, lingoglobe, interpals, penpals, wespeke, openlanguageexchange, fluent future, tandem, etc.
